Zenith-Solea is a joint venture between Zenith Pacific and Solea AG, a European company specialising in the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of large scale solar photo-voltaic (PV) farms for institutional clients internationally.
Founded in 2007, Solea is now one of Germany’s leading solar energy EPC contractors, having installed more than 250 MWp of photovoltaic capacity for clients in Europe, Africa and Asia with a total value of over €520 million. It provides O&M services for more than 50 individual PV installations with an aggregated installed capacity of more than 50MWp.
An operating division of Zenith Pacific, Zenith-Solea specialises in incorporating solar energy components in hybrid power systems to meet the specific needs of individual mining operations and remote communities, both in Australia and internationally. The use of solar energy as a supplement to conventional fuels offers both financial and environmental benefits.
Zenith-Solea is currently responsible for the design and construction of a 7MW solar PV farm that forms part of the 27MW power plant designed by Zenith Pacific for Independence Group’s Nova nickel mine in Western Australia.
Significantly, the Nova project will be the first minesite power plant anywhere in the world to incorporate solar hybrid energy on a commercial basis. Site works for the main plant began in January, 2016, with power production due to commence in September.
Construction of the solar PV farm will commence at that time, with commissioning scheduled for March, 2017. When completed, the solar component will provide 12% of the mine’s total power requirement, reducing the use of diesel by a forecast 3,000,000 litres a year, and cutting CO2-e emissions by 8,000 tonnes annually.
